The Second Stage

A flash banner.

The Second Stage is a major development project to combine all aspects of the Globe’s work in to an infrastructure to confirm its position as a leading centre for the study of Shakespeare in performance. There are four parts to the plan:

The Globe Education and Rehearsal Centre

Studios at nearby 58 Park Street are to be built into bespoke facilities for over 100,000 Globe Education students and a dedicated Rehearsal studio for actors and youth theatres.

MEASURE FOR MEASURE
To help raise funds for the new Centre one of our donors has pledged to match every pound donated, effectively doubling your donation! To make a donation please visit Charity Choice or top-up your booking when you purchase tickets through our online Box Office.

Indoor Jacobean Theatre

Create faithfully reconstructed theatre of a likeness to the Blackfriars Theatre where Shakespeare performed, and provide a facility for productions during winter months.

The Globe Research Centre, Library and Archive

Ensure the Globe is the first point of reference worldwide for the study of Shakespeare, display archives and rare collections,
bring public, performers and academics together, and create a new hospitality venue with a riverside vista.

In November 2008 private collector John Wolfson pledged his priceless collection of early play texts, including Shakespeare quarto and first folio editions, to Shakespeare’s Globe where they will be stored and accessed in the new Library.

Endowment

The Endowment will help us take important creative risks – to undertake more experimental work in the theatre and explore more innovative approaches to teaching Shakespeare – without compromising any other area of our work.
