Donate from the USA

In 1949 a young American actor came to visit London and the place where so many of Shakespeare’s plays were first performed. He left disappointed, finding that the only testimony to Shakespeare’s work on the Southbank was a blackened bronze plaque on the wall of a brewery. He conceived of a more fitting memorial to the playwright and nearly 50 years later Sam Wanamaker’s dream of a new Globe at Bankside was realised, although sadly not within his own lifetime.

Shakespeare’s Globe has a long and warm relationship with the USA and the generous support we have received from our friends in the States has been invaluable in making the Globe what it is today.

The Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Company, Globe Education and Shakespeare’s Globe Exhibition are testimony to the energy and enthusiasm Sam Wanamaker put into the establishment of not just the reconstruction of a theatre, but an international organisation dedicated to education and performance. However, we still have a long way to go before fully realising his vision and we need your help to do it.

How to Give from the USA
All Americans can join our Friends and Patrons schemes, and receive all the benefits, including our magazine and newsletter, as our UK supporters do. You can also join the Supporting Wall or leave us a bequest.

Donate tax efficiently through CAF America
If you would like to make one-off or regular tax effective donations to Shakespeare's Globe you can do so through CAF America. We receive full tax exemption from the IRS under section 501 © (3) and we are registered as an approved charity with CAF America.

You can donate online at www.cafonline.org/cafamerica and specify Shakespeare’s Globe to be the beneficiary of your donation.

Donating to Shakespeare's Globe if you are a US and UK Taxpayer
If you are a US citizen but work in the UK you may find that US income tax rules cancel out UK tax breaks on your charitable donations.

You can make a donation to us tax efficiently by going through the CAFAmerican Donor Fund and claim a double benefit - a tax deduction for the full value of the gift in the US plus the tax benefit under the Gift Aid legislation operating in the UK.

The CAFAmerican Donor Fund is a UK charitable company registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales, and fully owned by CAFAmerica.
