What's Around..?

Globe Education's AROUND WEEKEND COURSES are a unique opportunity to explore and interact with the plays in the Globe's 2008 theatre season.

Centred around a performance of the play, each weekend will provide you with both a practical understanding of the play, and insights into the creation of our production.

Over the course of each weekend you will meet directors, scholars, actors and critics through a series of engaging discussions, workshops and presentations. A pre-performance talk will prepare you for the play, and you'll share your views about the production afterwards.

Each weekend will culminate in a staged reading of a source for the play and a screening of a wonderful cinematic interpretation.

Whether you are a casual Shakespeare fan or a dedicated enthusiast you will find something in these stimulating weekends for you.

AROUND THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR

“Let the sky rain potatoes”
8 - 10 August

Shakespeare's brilliantly constructed farce is his only comedy set in England. Is it also the first ever sit-com?
Find out over the weekend which will include a discussion with the production's director Christopher Luscombe, and a story-telling performance of the source play Il Pecorone by the acclaimed Saul Jaffe and Danny Scheinmann.

AROUND A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

“Now am I dead”
5 - 7 September

Shakespeare's ultimate summer delight glitters on the surface, but have you glimpsed the magic underneath?
Around the performance in the Globe will be a discussion with the production's director, Jonathan Munby, a post-show discussion with the cast, and your chance to write a review of the play with critic Heather Neill.

Other than tickets reserved for Around Weekend participants, availability for A Midsummer Night's Dream performances is very limited.

AROUND TIMON OF ATHENS

The Man-Hater
19 - 21 September

Why is Shakespeare's Timon of Athens such a rarely seen jewel?
Highlights of the weekend will include a discussion with the production's director Lucy Bailey, who directed the overwhelming and enormously popular Titus Andronicus at the Globe in 2006, and a unique staged reading of Thomas Shadwell's 1677 version of the play.
